Van Morrison: Live In Düsseldorf 1998

Van Morrison is a legend.  Not only that, but he’s a prolific legend.
Between launching his solo career in 1967 and May 2018, he’s recorded a staggering 39 studio albums.  The last five of those have been released within a three year stretch.

While so many people are keen to view Van’s 70s work as the golden age, some of his later works are every bit as good as those famous early releases.  2012’s ‘Born To Sing: No Plan B’ and 2017’s ‘Roll With The Punches’ in particular find Morrison in particularly good voice, backed by a lot of blues based material.  Both are albums that far outshine anything any of Van’s potential peers – Dylan, Neil Young, Clapton – could muster during their twilight years.

THE GREAT 70s PROJECT: 1970/71 Revisited

Between May and July 2017, Real Gone embarked on an ambitious audio project.   A huge library of streaming audio, ‘The Great 70s Project’ became one of the year’s most popular features.

The plan was to delve deep into the decade’s music, but dig much deeper than revisiting the hits.  We hoped that by presenting the hits alongside some fabulous album cuts and neglected b-sides, our look at the decade would create new favourites and also encourage listens to long neglected albums.

Hit The North: Real Gone meets Paul Hanley

For most people, Paul Hanley will be best known as the drummer with The Fall during their “two drummers period” between 1980 and 1985. He is currently a member of Brix and The Extricated, a band comprising several ex-Fall members. In the last quarter of 2017, Paul’s book ‘Leave The Capital’, in which he looks at the history of various recordings made in Manchester, was published by Route Publishing. In March 2018, Paul met with Lee from Real Gone to discuss ‘Leave The Capital’ and more besides.

DELUXE EDITION DREAMLAND: Dollars And Sense – The Comprehensive Tin Machine

Despite David Bowie constantly changing his musical style and image, many people raised eyebrows when he formed Tin Machine, a rock band with guitarist Reeves Gabrels. Maybe the general ambivalence to the band was due to it being a victim of its own timing – David had filled most of the immediately preceding years with some of his most commercial music after all, so maybe a core of the audience weren’t prepared for the band’s harder sound?
