During the last quarter of 2025, desert rock duo ‘SoftSun’ released their second album ‘Eternal Sunrise’. Since their debut LP was a near flawless slice of deep psych infused desert/stoner, there was a great deal riding on ‘Eternal Sunrise’ in terms of overall quality, but it’s fair to say that it was everything fans of the debut could’ve hoped for.

Bowling For Soup team up with able machines for spirited cover of Elastica’s ‘Connection’
The always entertaining Bowling For Soup are kicking off what promises to be another successful year with a cover tune. Teaming up with able machines (featuring power pop cult hero Linus of Hollywood), they’ve reworked a 90s classic, Elastica’s ‘Connection’, and created something even more indebted to new wave than the original cut.
The Dandy Warhols to release covers collection ‘Pin Ups’ in March
On 20th March 2026, The Dandy Warhols will release ‘Pin Ups’, a collection of reimagined cover tunes, presented on vinyl, CD and digital formats. The record – which obviously borrows its title from David Bowie’s much celebrated covers album from 1973 – contains recordings made over a number of years, and includes unreleased material. It finds the band putting their stamp on artists as diverse as The Cramps, Grateful Dead, Marilyn Manson and The Beatles.
Watch: Oreyeon relive ‘Echoes Of Old Nightmares’ in new video
On their 2019 LP, Oreyeon delivered a set of songs driven by absolutely crushing riffs. Blending the stoner/fuzz of classic Kyuss into a doomier musical landscape, the record’s best songs were unrelentingly heavy, and yet a world of vocal filters and other tricks sometimes gave their sound a deep psych edge which kept things interesting. Over the next few years, Oreyeon would become an important fixture within the Italian doom and sludge scenes. By the time they recorded ‘Equations For The Useless’ in 2022, a much bigger recording budget gave them a slightly clearer sound, but without making their material especially more accessible. If anything, it cemented the band’s reputation as one of Europe’s finest underground metal bands.
Watch: Asylum Road share new video for ‘Mirror Of Oblivion’
Blending elements of groove metal and melodic hardcore, with influences from Machine Head and Sevendust, Irish band Asylum Road delivered some absolutely massive riffs on their brilliant EP ‘The Fear’ in 2024. A couple of the vocals might have split opinion with their genuinely abrasive approach, but from a musical standpoint – and looking at the material in terms of tightly played, classic metal, without sounding at all dated – the material was first rate.
