Ahead of the release of his eleventh full-length album (excluding two collaborations with Susanna Hoffs), power pop legend Matthew Sweet is giving away free music.

In exchange for your email address you can download four new recordings from Matthew via Noisetrade.

The download EP features an acoustic version of ‘She Walks The Night’ (a track from the upcoming album, entitled ‘Modern Art’) plus three tracks from Sweet’s back catalogue – ‘The Ugly Truth’, ‘Time Capsule’ and ‘Divine Intervention’ – all recorded live at McCabes.

Arcade Fire win Polaris award

Arcade Fire were winners of the Polaris award for their album ‘The Suburbs’ on Monday night.

The Polaris is the Canadian equivalent of the British Mercury prize.

‘The Suburbs’ was a worldwide success, scoring the band a #1 album in the US, UK, Portugal, Belgium, Ireland, Canada and Norway and broke the top 5 in Germany, Finland, Spain and The Netherlands.

Jane’s Addiction: New album release delayed for a second time

Jane’s Addiction’s fifth studio album ‘The Great Escape Artist’ was initially said to have a release on September 26th. At the end of August it was reported the album had been pushed back and would be released on October 4th.

Reports suggest the album’s release has now been delayed further. It it now expected to hit stores on October 17th. No official reason has been given for the rescheduling.

Lacuna Coil are to release their new album ‘Dark Adrenaline’ on January 24th.

The album is released via Century Media records and features the following tracklisting:

Metallica/Lou Reed: Lulu posters banned from London Underground

According to reports, the powers that be at the London Underground have refused to display promotional posters for the upcoming Lou Reed/Metallica collaboration, ‘Lulu’.

Their official reason for the snub? The text looks too much like graffiti. Are they being too harsh? Judge for yourselves:

‘Lulu’ is released in the US on November 1st and the rest of the world one day earlier, on October 31st.
