Anyone who has ever seen the Melvins at any point will tell you they put on an amazing live show. Their sledgehammer sound is arguably at its most effective when delivered at full volume in front of an intense crowd, but the opportunity to watch drummer Dale Crover at work makes for a brilliant experience in itself.

If you were a metal fan between 1999 and 2001, it almost became impossible to avoid Slipknot for a while. Their debut album gained the band a truckload of magazine coverage and around the turn of the millennium, they became a massive draw at festivals.

No matter which line up or era, Primus can usually be relied upon for a great show. Les Claypool’s complex bass skills are almost unparalleled and the band’s fusion of hard funk, angular art rock and weird atonal jazz has continued to enthral a legion of fans.

In September 2021, Marillion will continue their reissue programme with a multi-disc version of 1984’s ‘Fugazi’. Something of a fan favourite, this second album saw a huge leap in musical confidence – something certainly helped by the arrival of drummer Ian Mosley – and take a much darker lyrical slant. Despite not having much commercial potential, at least on the face of things, the album became a top ten smash in the UK and even scored the band two top 40 singles and their first appearance on Top of The Pops.

In the summer of 1994, Sausage released their one and only album, ‘Riddles Are Abound Tonight’. A genuine treat for Primus fans, this was far more than a side project for Les Claypool – it was effectively a reunion of the first Primus line up featuring guitarist Todd Huth and drummer Jay Lane.
