THE REAL GONE SINGLES BAR #112

Welcome back to the Real Gone Singles Bar, the place where we explore some of the individual tracks that have landed in our inbox over the past couple of weeks. This time around, we bring you a superb pop-rocker from a Scottish act, a massive slab of dub from a legendary figure, a pair of very different punkers, something folky, and a throwback to industrial’s 90s peak. Watch: Silver Dollar Room share new video for ‘Monsters’

Barely six weeks after the release of ‘Come Morning’, Scotland’s Silver Dollar Room have returned with the immensely powerful ‘Monsters’, a riff heavy number that really shows off their alt-rock sound in the most direct way possible.

The track’s opening rhythm guitar salvo calls back to 90s emo with strong echoes of Shift within the tone. This catches the ear with immediate effect, suggesting that this could be one of the band’s biggest sounding tunes to date. From there, though, ‘Monsters’ grows into something huge; a tune that moves between a few very distinctly different musical passages, eventually peaking with an epic instrumental break, showcasing the band’s heaviest sounds to date.

THE REAL GONE SINGLES BAR SUMMER SPECIAL 2025

During the first half of 2025, our weekly Singles Bar feature went from strength to strength. The daily submissions piled up, and in keeping with the second half of ’24, no matter how many great tracks we highlighted, there always seemed to be a few that slipped through the cracks. This Summer Special shines a light on some of the greatest tunes and more interesting bands that didn’t make the cut. These shouldn’t be considered leftovers, though – everything here is of a hugely high standard. We’ve got blues, country, metal, a couple of interesting twists on a pop sound, a couple of off kilter indie bands…and far more besides. Grab yourselves a cuppa and turn up the volume: these twenty selections are all worth hearing in their own right, and when experienced together, act as a reminder of why our Singles Bar has become one of Real Gone’s most popular features.

AROUND 7 – A Tale Of Martyrs & Heathens EP

There’s rarely such a thing as overnight success, but at the beginning of 2025, it almost felt as if Scottish pop punk band Around 7 have been lurking on the underground without a “major breakthrough” forever. That’s certainly not a reflection on the quality of their songs or playing abilities, however – the four tracks that make up their ‘A Tale of Martyrs & Heathens’ EP are absolutely superb.

THE REAL GONE SINGLES BAR #105

With two very different jazz numbers, a slice of alternative metal with a theatrical quality, a strong offering from a cult singer-songwriter and a track that’s practically uncategorisable, the selection for this Singles Bar adopts a little more of a “go hard or go home” approach. By casting a light on a couple of the more adventurous tracks from the last couple of weeks, this bunch of tunes might take a little longer to make an impression, but we feel that every one of these artists is bringing something of great interest to the table. What’s more, it’s probably just the beginning of a great, creative period for some of the featured performers, whether genuinely attempting to push boundaries or choosing to share some solidly familiar riffs. As always, we hope you find something new to enjoy!
