On their second EP ‘Six Pack’, self-confessed “slacker rock” Parisians Normcore are here to remind you of the Reading Festival mud-bath of 1992 and the long, hot summer of 1995. On a spirited homage to various distorted indie rock heroes from decades past, its six songs recycle the best bits of early Weezer, Dinosaur Jr., Superchunk and Pavement with a loving charm, but a heavy French accent throughout gives this distortion-loving quartet a slightly different slant on an overly familiar sound.

BEST BOYS ELECTRIC – Brett Pop Affairs EP
It’s not immediately clear what (or, indeed, whom) “Brett Pop” is, but it’s obviously really important to this group of musicians from Bremen. Immersing themselves in a retro, cartoonish world, Best Boys Electric are out for fun. Sure, music can be deep and cerebral, but that’s not so much a focus here, as these guys set out to stoke up good times throughout this EP.

Back in 2014, Scandinavian alt-pop band Rooni released their ‘Pilot‘ EP, an enjoyable mixed bag of indie and power pop tunes that very much filled the whole left by The Wannadies. Better than that, a stand-alone single ‘Ambulance’ delivered three minutes of power pop perfection.
Over the next few years, the band kept a relatively low profile but released a few enjoyable singles, including a tribute to Kiss legend Paul Stanley.

BRADDOCK STATION GARRISON – American Radio
Mixing 90s power pop with a touch of Americana and the kind of rock ‘n’ roll swagger you’d find from Boston’s Tom Baker & The Snakes, Braddock Station Garrison have a great crossover sound. Their fourth album, 2019’s ‘American Radio’ takes a well-established style, but thanks to some solid musicianship and a few fantastic chorus hooks, its ten songs sound anything but stale.
