Australian “genre-bending” act Yeah, Sick! formed during the lockdown era as a “tongue in cheek experiment that grew into something bigger”. Their debut release ‘Set To Devour Us All!’ presented a wealth of slap bass sounds colliding with muddy guitar work that set up a heavy but very rhythmic sound. The mixture of early 90s funk metal influences and nu-metal ugliness resulted in five tracks that were, at best, hard going. The music might’ve been a little more palatable if Yeah, Sick! were better songwriters. The material felt too frivolous to be taken seriously, but nowhere near amusing enough to sit with any genuine comedy themed acts. Beyond a couple of very easily pleased Mr. Bungle fans, it’s not entirely clear who might have found the EP interesting.
Northern Ireland’s Hard To Explain emerged in a post-lockdown world, and before long, began what was to become a run of impressive single releases. ‘Hell To Pay’, the band’s debut album (released at the tail end of 2025) makes good on all of the band’s early promise, sharing a collection of varied and hard edged tracks that showcase strong vocals, thoughful lyrical themes, and – above all – a succession of massive riffs.
As part of the promotion for their 2025 EP ‘Reckoning’ – released today, and available from the digital vendor or streamer of your choice – Welsh alt-metal band House of Hosts have shared a new video for ‘Pedestal’, a blistering number that acts as a perfect introduction to their heavy sound.
After forming in 2023, UK alternative metal crew Falling Below didn’t have to wait long to find an audience. Their eponymously named debut release gained support from the BBC, Total Rock Radio and Kerrang!, and the promotion of the EP saw the band taking a prolific approach to live performances.
