Lissie covers Nick Cave and Metallica songs on upcoming EP

US singer-songwriter Lissie will be releasing a covers EP in November.

The singer has announced the EP – entitled ‘Covered With Flowers’ will feature her re-workings of Metallica‘s ‘Nothing Else Matters’ and Nick Cave‘s ‘Boat Song’.  The EP will also feature tracks originally by Kid Cudi and Lady Gaga, as well as a take on Joe South’s ‘Games People Play’ (a track also recorded by Tesla, Eddy Grant and many others).

‘Covered With Flowers’  is released on November 7th.  Lissie also appears on the upcoming Snow Patrol album, released a week later.

 

Ex-Megadeth guitarist Glen Drover to release live DVD

On September 25th, virtuoso Canadian guitarists Glen Drover and Dave Martone took past in a world-wide webcast. The pair performed live sets as part of the “Live at Metalworks” concert series.

You can view ex-Megadeth guitarist Drover performing ‘Colors of Infinity’ and Mertone’s performance of ‘Dinky Pinky’ – both included in the webcast below. Magna Carta Records have also announced plans to release the whole of Glen Drover’s set on DVD early in 2012.

Mazzy Star to release first new material in 15 years

Dreampop duo Mazzy Star – comprising vocalist Hope Sandoval and guitarist David Roeback – are releasing new material on Halloween, ending a decade and a half’s hiatus.

The duo have recorded two new songs, ‘Common Burn’ and ‘Lay Myself Down’, both of which will be released digitally on October 31st, followed by a limited edition coloured vinyl 7″ on November 8th.

Although nothing has been confirmed, rumours are circulating regarding the release of a full-length LP in 2012.

Saxon frontman and ex-Skid Row vocalist guesting on new project by Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider

Dee Snider is currently working on a new project. He is reworking Broadway tunes in his own image.

The album, entitled ‘Dee Does Broadway’ is currently under construction and does not as yet have a confirmed tracklisting or release date. It has been reported that Saxon mainman Biff Byford and ex-Skid Row mouthpiece Sebastian Bach have made guest appearances.

Snyder says of the new project: “It’s not metal. I’m taking Broadway show tunes and I’m making them rock.”

Earlier in 2011, Snyder made a guest appearance on a metal tribute to Frank Sinatra (read the review here), while a lavish Twisted Sister box set is also forthcoming.

Aussie prog-metallers Circles release first single

Australian progressive metal/djent band Circles will release their first single ‘Eye Embedded’ in November.

The track comes from the band’s debut EP ‘The Compass’ (released via Basick Records in June 2011) and will be backed by exclusive demos and alternate mixes of other Circles tracks.
