Watch: Tellers Scribe share new video for ‘Bella’

The opening of ‘Bella’, the current single from Tellers Scribe, wastes no time in setting a brilliantly heavy sound in place. The guitar tones mix post-grunge with a pinch of nu metal, and also add a hugely sludgy element to give everything a pleasingly dirty feel. For some, that might be complex ensough, but this is also augmented with a few very old school “horsey squeals” bringing slightly more of an old school vibe. In short, this grabs the ear in seconds.

This also suggests, with almost immediate effect, that this is a band who aren’t about to be pigeonholed. …And indeed, this multi-layered arrangement brings a couple of other twists along the way, including an instrumental break midway that adds a slight prog metal influence to an already busy sound. No matter where the music takes the listener, however, the performance is ultimately stolen by Kim Stacey-Merino, who fills almost the entire piece with a pleasingly theatrical performance, curling a hugely melodic yet dark tone around the grinding and heavy backdrop, offering a massively accessible sound.

A relatively new arrival on the rock scene, ‘Bella’ affords Tellers Scribe a place among the more exciting rock acts of 2024. This is the strange marriage of Koяn, Paradise Lost and Lacuna Coil you never knew you needed.
