Combining elements of post punk and noisy indie, London-based art rock band Blue Statue cast themselves as the natural successors to Wire on their new single ‘V.F.’
Following on from 2019’s ‘E.P.1’, the track utilises minimalist chugs, a catchy count-along hook and a wall of fuzz to create something that sits neatly between late 70s post-punk and the angrier aspects of 90s bands like Yo La Tengo. There’s a lot here to be absorbed by those with a retro alternative heart, but it’s the wall of distortion that fills the instrumental moments is most likely to win over new listeners. If you still reach for a lot of angular sounds, Blue Statue’s brand of angular noise rock is bound to offer something familiar.
