The Who “Live At Fillmore East 1968” to be released in April

The Who will release an archival live album on April 20th.

While 1969’s ‘Live At Leeds’ will always be the archetypal ‘Oo live release and ‘Live At The Isle of Wight 1970’ captures the band in their full blown pomp, the newly remastered and released ‘Live At Fillmore’ is an historically important record of the band in a live setting.

Not least of all because it documents the live shows for the classic ‘Who Sell Out’ LP, but also the tour represents the last time the band put on full shows without relying on the ‘Tommy’ rock opera as a centre piece, whether in full or in part.

THE DESERT – Playing Dead EP

Bristol’s The Desert mix low key elements of alternative music, with elements of mellow acoustic pop, dream pop and even a few trip hop beats on their debut EP. Their music looks to the past, obviously, but somehow doesn’t sound like a complete nostalgia trip. In just four songs, they weave musical magic that sound absolutely superb approached on cold and dark winter nights.

Smashing Pumpkins Reunion: Corgan to tour with core of original band

There were rumours flying last year that the original and classic line up of The Smashing Pumpkins were getting back together.  The rumours were fuelled by Billy Corgan himself who hinted at doing something with old and familiar faces.

It has finally been announced that Corgan, along with guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin will tour the US this summer.  It’s promised to be a show “unlike any [the band] have ever done”, according to Corgan, with material culled from the band’s first five albums.

K7s – Take 1

What would happen if you took a member of the Bullet Proof Lovers, a member of Spanish punkers Los Reactivos and a member of the Spanish band Airbag and set them to work in the recording studio? You’d end up with K7s, one of the finest pop punk outfits to release an album since the genre’s glory days of the 1990s. Yes, the K7s’ debut is that good…and in in almost every way. It’s hugely indebted to days gone by when pop punk meant pop punk and not whiny music with an overdriven guitar riff, but that’s every reason why it’s great. Continue reading →
