Since the release of their ‘Brave Warrior’ EP in 2021, Irish-Anglo band KEELEY have been a great source of thoughtful indie and shoegaze sounds. Their songs, mostly based around the disappearance of traveller Inga Maria Hauser, have provided a superb vehicle for the charismatic Keeley Moss, and whether delivering shimmering, atmospheric tunes (‘To A London Sunrise’) or really catchy pop-rockers (‘The Glitter & The Glue’), the band’s output has managed the rare feat of maintaining a high quality even with a prolific release schedule.

THE REAL GONE SINGLES BAR #109
There’s an obvious theme of “crossover” for this visit to the Singles Bar, with half of the featured tracks comprising two jazz fusion tracks, a blend of punk ‘n’ roll and alternative metal, and an unexpected noise from a French band that are really pushing the boundaries. With a great post-punk track and a familiar melodic punk act also sharing recent material, there are also a couple of very familiar touchstones here too, making it a very strong mix of material all round. As always, we hope you find something new to enjoy.

With two very different jazz numbers, a slice of alternative metal with a theatrical quality, a strong offering from a cult singer-songwriter and a track that’s practically uncategorisable, the selection for this Singles Bar adopts a little more of a “go hard or go home” approach. By casting a light on a couple of the more adventurous tracks from the last couple of weeks, this bunch of tunes might take a little longer to make an impression, but we feel that every one of these artists is bringing something of great interest to the table. What’s more, it’s probably just the beginning of a great, creative period for some of the featured performers, whether genuinely attempting to push boundaries or choosing to share some solidly familiar riffs. Following another week where there have been an insane amount of submissions for the Singles Bar, this visit offers a broad selection of sounds. Among the eight picks, there’s a really atmospheric slice of pop from a singer songwriter on her way to becoming a proper cult figure, some superb indie pop vibes, and even a long stoner infused jam which really doesn’t suggest a “single” at all. As usual, we hope you find something new to enjoy…

BOX – Born To Crawl EP
When it comes to chosen names, ‘Box’ feels rather cheeky. This one man band’s work refuses to be kept tidy, or easily placed within a genre. Or any kind of box. Beyond “cold, arty rock”, the songs on ‘Born To Crawl’ refuse to conform to any label, and certainly don’t fit any pre-conceived ideas you may have about a musician who has previously been associated with US punks Poison Idea. There are moments that, perhaps, fall a little further in line with multi-instrumentalist Andrew Stromstad’s work with blackened doom band Atriarch but, again, at its best, the Box sound feels very different. It’s certainly less heavy and although it feels more experimental, it’s actually more accessible than some of his past works. The heart of Box definitely shares like a fresh sound for Stromstad, making it the perfect side project.
