MORNING BELLS – Fall From The Velvet Sky EP

Somewhere between the works of Martin Rossiter, Old House Playground, The Bad Seeds and…The Connells lies the music Morning Bells. Purveyors of the finest thoughtful indie pop/rock, this Raleigh based collective is perhaps a little restless on their ‘Fall From The Velvet Sky’ EP. The five featured tracks wander a fine line between the gothic and soulful, between the honest and mournful, before ending up somewhere unexpected. The band’s way of working on the hoof and creating music borne within a moment means that sometimes, stylistically speaking, there’s a huge variation in sound. However, whether tapping into sad sounds or something a little more lively, they often create interest from the beauty of their unease.

Listen: Stella Angelika shares new single ‘Denouement’

There have only been a few tracks released by London based singer-songwriter Stella Angelika since 2017, but each one has shown a different side to the artist, suggesting a somewhat restless spirit.

Her 2017 single ‘Sleep’ saw her working in a jazz format on a laid back track that very much focused on her voice. 2018’s ‘I Got You’ moved into contemporary pop territory, taking a soulful sound and boosting it with a sunny, upbeat melody. Her current single ‘Denouement’ shows a further musical shift.

THE BABYS – The Babys

Best remembered for big US hits ‘Isn’t It Time’ and ‘Every Time I Think of You’, British rock band The Babys have remained a cult favourite among AOR fans. The launching point of John Waite’s career, the band released a string of enjoyable albums between 1976-81 with their combination of fine 70s pop hooks and strong guitar driven melodies.

Kim Wilde: Three vastly expanded deluxe editions coming in January 2020

Some fantastic news for fans of classic 80s pop.  In January 2020, Cherry Red are set to reissue Kim Wilde’s first three albums as deluxe sets.  All three will also receive the coloured vinyl treatment.

Following the same set up as the 2018 Howard Jones reissues, the albums – Kim Wilde (1981), ‘Select’ (1982) and ‘Catch As Catch Can’ – are to be made available as 2CD/DVD sets, with each one hosting a whole bunch of bonus tracks and rarities.
