It’s been a couple of months since we visited Boston, but in that time there’s been a few very interesting things happening. Our ten song selection for September celebrates the best sounds from the city’s underground, bringing you not only the usual dose of garage rock, but even tracks by a couple of great singer songwriters and an alternative rock tune teetering on the fringes of melodic punk. As our longtime followers will know, we’re always busy here at Real Gone. That said, we’ve rarely been busier than right now, and the last couple of months have served up a whole world of great new sounds.
With a lot of great music pouring out of the city over the last couple of months, it’s time to take a return trip to Boston! A couple of very familiar names can be found showcasing new and recent wares, but this is still much a celebration of the newer sounds emerging from that region of the US. We’ve got an unexpected tribute to a Britpop past, a glam infused banger, and a couple of superb indie themed tracks to fill your ears, and more besides. If you find something new to enjoy – and we certainly hope that will be the case – why not drop by and tell us? Happy listening!

In 2004, at a time when half the world was hopped up on the sounds of the Franz Ferdinand debut and Arcade Fire’s ‘Funeral’ (an album the Canadian band have never bettered), and at a time when Green Day’s ‘American Idiot’ was making inroads into being a best seller, somewhere in the wilds of Boston, Muck and The Mires were making garage rock noises for a much smaller audience. Not that the love poured into the tunes on their ‘Beginner’s Muck’ LP was any the lesser; the energy on that record spoke for itself, and the band’s love of Flamin’ Groovies and other retro fare propelled them forward, subsequently making stronger albums whilst retaining admiration from the underground power pop fans.
It’s been a while since we visited Boston and its suburbs, but there’s been a lot of music pouring out of the neighbourhood in the early part of 2026. This time around, you’ll be reacquainted with a few familiar performers, but iwith the help of some fine Americana sounds and even something a little bluesy alongside the expected bar-room rock vibes. As always, we hope you find something new to enjoy. Better still, we hope you find the time spent digging through these tracks not only pleasurable, but also a lead towards discovering other great sounds.
