Watch: Ruled By Raptors share new video for ‘Rescissory’

On their previous single ‘Algebra (I’m In A Rage)’, British post hardcore band Ruled By Raptors mixed hardcore elements with prog rock time signatures and clean vocals to create a really interesting sound. It was one of those tracks that had such a spark, it more than proved – not that proof were actually needed – that the underground rock and metal scene could still serve up some really inspiring sounds.

Their current single ‘Rescissory’ takes a much more abrasive turn at first. The opening riffs waste no time in presenting the band’s heavier side, launching into a classic sounding hardcore/metal blend, and once that’s topped by a throat-caner of a vocal, the band’s hardcore credentials are more than clear.

Being a Ruled By Raptors recording, things aren’t content to settle there, of course. The core of the track works that great riff to the band’s advantage against a confident hardcore vocal, and even uses it as a basis for some interesting harmony vocals, but there are also moments here where the guitars drop into an almost industrial grind and also take a strange detour into art rock. And, naturally, it’s that detour which really makes the track, sharing spoken yet emotive vocals, clean guitar sounds and almost math rock inspired riffs that, again, lean into something a little more progressive.

Despite being markedly different to ‘Algebra’, ‘Rescissory’ provides further proof that Ruled By Raptors are one of the most interesting bands on the UK scene as we prepare to head into 2027.
