At the beginning of 2025, funk and pop duo DIZZY! released the ‘Hot Mess’ EP, sharing four tracks of well produced, soulful material that really captured a mood that seemed set to soundtrack the summer. The music, drawing influence from various corners of 70s and 80s soul and pop, was pin-sharp, but the material really came into its own when shining a light on DIZZY!’s vocal blend. David and Izzy Gruner’s vocals were obviously a natural fit with each other, with Izzy’s brighter tones sharing an especially pleasing tone. Despite featuring just four tracks, the EP was genuinely varied: the DNA from Lenny Kravitz’s ‘It Ain’t Over ’It’s Over’ could be found on the stand out cut ‘Bitter’; a great blend of pop and soul showed off the duo’s more buoyant side on the brilliant ‘Mess’ and ‘Crybaby’, while ‘Too Late’ even teased with lounge jazz.
Released in a world that sometimes felt as if it were drowning in new music, ‘Hot Mess’ eventually garnered 23K streams; enough to build upon DIZZY!’s cult status, but David and Izzy weren’t going to rest on their laurels.
Kicking off 2026 with brand new music, DIZZY! have returned with the thoughtful ‘Do You Want To?’ A track driven by electric piano and a sultry vocal, the performance leans further than before into a blend of soul and acid jazz, with David dropping some wonderfully clean guitar lines behind Izzy’s voice, but without taking away too much of her power. With muted brass used rather effortlessly to flesh out a mellow mood, this track soon grows to become one of those perfect late night listens.
‘Do You Want To?’ may be much smoother than parts of ‘Hot Mess’, but it shows the Gruner siblings in a more mature sounding mood, on a recording that has the potential to eclipse their previous work. Although it’s one of those singles that’s best suited to a specific time and place – evenings and late nights certainly favour this far more than being a soundtrack to morning routines – it will certainly appeal to DIZZY!’s extant fan base.
The single, along with the new video, will be released on February 6th. In the meantime, you can check it out in our online premiere below.
