Watch the new video for Lande Hekt’s ‘December’

Lande Hekt rose to fame as the singer with excellent indie/punk band Muncie Girls, a band whose 90s-centric sounds evoked the past like no other.  Lande released an excellent solo EP in 2019 and her debut full length appeared in February 2021.

Released as a digital single, ‘December’ provides a great snapshot of the new record, with its three minutes’ worth of truly infectious jangle.  Its reflective lyric looks back at many things that make the protagonist feel a sense of uncertainty – a hidden sadness, reaching out for a new LGBT love, the fear of the new and of rejection – but it never feels downbeat. The accompanying video really captures the feeling of starting out on a new journey – something symbolised in the spectacle of Hekt giving herself a haircut (something quite topical for the lockdowns of 2020/1) – and by the timof e we reach the carefree imagery of an adult jumping on a bed as if to suggest the childlike abilities to just live in the moment are never too far beneath the surface, it becomes a genuinely feel-good watch.

There’s so much here for lovers of Muncie Girls and Hekt’s previous work to love…and in a heartbeat.
