Some things make you feel good instantly.  The Mats Wawa EP released at the beginning of 2018 is such a thing.   This second single by Durham’s Yada Yada Yadas is another.   It’s probably no coincidence that both releases are brimming with a retro quality.
Taking many cues from lots of late 90s indie bands, ‘Woke Up Strange’ provides a solid feel good hit of fuzzy guitar driven pop.  There’s the distorted feel of Yuck records; the shameless twee pop of prime Flaming Lips, but also a touch of shoegaze-ish density, all of which helps Yada Yada Yadas’ second single tick so many of the right boxes.
