Watch: Melodic punks The Carolyn share video for ‘White Russians and The Infinite Void’ ahead of EP release

Atlanta’s The Carolyn are one of the great “under the radar” punk bands. Billing themselves as a melodic punk band who “make music for overthinkers”, their classic sound – drawing heavily from the classic influence of Face To Face and Strike Anywhere – relies as much on rousing hooks and huge, accessible melodies as punky riffs.

Watch: Manchester’s The Fear share crushing cover of James classic ‘Sit Down’

British indie pop band James are beloved by many and have released a fine run of singles over the decades. ‘Come Home’, ‘Sound’ and ‘Getting Away With It’ are arguably among their best, but it’s only really ‘Laid’ and mega-hit ‘Sit Down’ that get heard on radio or in public with any kind of regularity. ‘Sit Down’ has become so overplayed over the years that you might not feel like you ever want to hear it again.

Check out the new video clip from Dotsun Moon

In June 2025, one man band Dotsun Moon released their third album, ‘Tiger’. Coming almost a decade after the previous Dotsun Moon album, you certainly couldn’t call multi-instrumentalist Richard Flierl prolific, but the record was certainly worth the wait. A clutch of pre-release singles suggested it would be a strong album, but those tracks didn’t quite capture the fullness of how great ‘Tiger’ would be. The British rock band have been making inroads into a career on a run of hard rock singles beginning with 2024’s ‘Problem Since Day 1’, a track which very much laid down the Sleazy Money blueprint with a barrage of tough riffs borrowing the energy of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal with the all round sleaziness of the US glam scene from 1987. In just four minutes, it was immediately clear that the marriage between Connor Palmer’s tough vocals and Joe Florence’s incendiary guitar riffs provided a solid union, and with the presence of a really tight rhythm section, the band were capable of whipping up some seriously old school melodic metal thrills.

Watch: Ward XVI share new video for ‘At The Window’

The opening drones of Ward XVI’s current single ‘At The Window’ immediately advertise something with a grandiose heart. This almost cinematic stance is perfect for the band, since it captures their huge sound in an instant, and when providing a massive backdrop for the verse’s more goth-tinged leanings, those keys sit naturally between a darkwave unease and an orchestral flourish, reminding listeners that this shock rock act doesn’t “think small”.
