Shoot The Cricket seems an odd name to give a recording project. Kind of distinctive, yet not especially good, it’s the kind of band name where you’d have to wonder which names were considered inferior… Regardless, it’s the music that’s important – and on this 2013 EP ‘Life Has Taught Me’, the duo (comprising sisters Jeje and Lesal Bognar) serve up some intermittently enjoyable piano-based pop.

THE NAKED SUN – Space, Place & Time EP
The Naked Sun are a four piece Americana/roots rock band based in Philadelphia. Their debut studio EP ‘Space, Place & Time’ offers four very high quality songs – the standard of which you’d swear came from a band far more established within the music world; the sound heavily influenced by many old style country rock themes.
THE MINORS – Intruders EP
The Minors are a Brooklyn based duo comprising of sometime Swimclub member Greg Adams and his multi-instrumentalist/producer/engineer nephew Tom Jebb. The idea of a homespun family duo brings back unpleasant memories of 2010’s oddball, misguided release by Quakers on Probation and while The Minors, too, could have used a little more of an outside influence from time to time, the core of their material actually shows promise. Their chosen sound – somewhere between a 60s power pop outfit and very light rock ‘n’ roll – is both user friendly and strangely familiar.
CROSS WIRES – Dark Water EP
Following two self-financed EPs and gigs at London’s much-loved 93 Feet East and Camden Barfly, this third DIY offering from Bethnal Green/Essex combo Cross Wires offers three more pieces of hard indie jangling crossed with a little post punk. While their overall sound is still pretty raw, the rhythm section of Pete Letch on bass and drummer Ian Clarke provide the band with solid foundations, which appears handy for those inevitable times where the lead parts still seem somewhat dissonant.
