Back in 2024, Beauty In Chaos released ‘Made of Rain’, a brilliant single featuring Ashton Nyte that blended the melodic air of 80s goth with a slightly heavier chorus. A year on, the number has been reworked in an “almost acoustic” format, and it is absolutely gorgeous.
From the outset, the verse’s melancholic air works brilliantly with a very 90s “unplugged” sound. The combination of acoustic guitar lines and subtle strings is absolutely perfect, really showing off the track’s cinematic qualities. As things start to grow, occasional electric guitar chords creep in with an ominous quality, whilst Ashton Nyte’s aching vocal, somehow, sounds even bigger and more emotive than it did on the original version of the track. There are times where he’s so dominant, he almost drowns out the track’s other guest – Whitney Tai, supplying a rather fragile harmony – but never in a way that would spoil the performance or render her redundant.
Reaching the track’s peak, a few heavy guitars creep in, making it clear why this has been subtitled the “almost acoustic” version, and these darker moments, naturally, draw a closer parallel with the original track. Much like Nyte’s vocal, though, the live setting allows the riffs to sound much stronger and even more emotive, really bringing out the strength of an already great melody.
Working with the old maxim that “less is more”, this stripped down recording stands as the ultimate version of ‘Made of Rain’. Those who enjoyed the studio take will fall in love with this performance in a heartbeat.
