Queens of the Stone Age have come a long way since the release of their stoner rock infused debut. The many musical twists they’ve taken haven’t always worked out for the best, but you probably couldn’t accuse them of being a band who’ve churned out the same album time and again.

Part of their evolution comes from an ever shifting line up, but main man Josh Homme isn’t afraid to experiment, as this short live set for KEXP shows. Although only presenting four songs, the set offers a great interest, since the tracks – including two older, very familiar choices – have been reworked to accommodate brass and strings. These bring a grandiosity to some of the more maudlin melodies, without drawing the focus entirely away from the Queens’ ability to wield massive rock riffs.

Despite announcing a new album would be released in “early 2026”, fans are still waiting. There is currently no confirmed date for the arrival of the record. In the meantime, you can watch the KEXP performance below.
