Rain Corner isn’t a band. Nor is the artist beholden to one particular genre. This new act for 2026 has released a couple of impressive singles in ‘Dead End’ – a Travis-esque pop rocker that showcases a wonderfully light vocal – and ‘Tokyo’, taking singer songwriter Ryan Connor’s work a little further towards an atmosphere laden dream pop sound – something very fashionable in indie circles at the time of release.

For this third release, ‘Like That’, Ryan throws a massive curve ball. From the second a wall of tinkling synths fill out the intro, it’s clear this will be nothing like those earlier tracks. Building upon the keys, Ryan utilises a late 80s/early 90s influence to weave a strong guitar sound against a steady beat. Then, he fills the verse with a breathy vocal that pulls everything much closer to a contemporary pop sound in 2026, which still allows some great music to take centre stage.

It’s clearly great even before the chorus hits, but that takes everything up a gear with a melody that resembles a couple of Tame Impala belters, solidifying Rain Corner’s abilities with a superb radio friendly sound. A few funk oriented rhythm guitars give everything a further lift, as does Ryan’s soul inflected vocal, taking the time to drop in a couple of extra melodic fills.

Even with a slightly misjudged rap interlude (although this should gain brownie points for name-checking Toblerone!), this is an absolutely superb single which takes Rain Corner further towards the “big leagues” in terms of great songs. It also stokes excitement for what Ryan might deliver next – at this point, it’s pretty much anybody’s guess.
