Portuguese metal band Ionized have returned! Their new single ‘In The Distance’, comes ahead of a new album, and as far as a taster is concerned, it couldn’t be better.
Mixing elements of groove metal with the melodic strains of an alt-metal sound, the track quickly serves up an accessible riff, whilst a slight downtune on the guitars lends something of an extra edge. Throwing in a few more complex passages more in keeping with European progressive metal bands, Ionized also hint at something much busier, but its the way they’re able to blend these styles seamlessly that really makes the track, and their sense of pacing is such that it never drags, despite clocking up an intensive six minutes worth of riffs. Factor in a clean melodic vocal and it becomes the kind of performance that could appeal to a broad spectrum of metal fans.
