Spanish garage rockers Los Chicos can count the Kurt Baker Combo‘s Juancho Lopez and Rum Bar Records’ head honcho Malibu Lou among their fans, but soon, they’ll gain a larger fan base outside of their home country when a compilation of their best tracks will get a long overdue US release.
’20 Years of Shakin’ Fat & Launching Shit By Medical Prescription’ will be released by Rum Bar Records in July ’21. The disc pulls together 23 tunes from across Los Chicos’ long career, and promises a broad selection of garage rock workouts, pub rock numbers and several trashy party fuelled bangers for your delight.
As a primer, ‘I Don’t Wanna Learn’ (also credited as ‘I Don’t Wanna Learn Anymore’ on the upcoming comp) is streaming over on their Bandcamp page now and you can watch the video from 2016 below. In approximately two minutes, it tells you all you need to know about Los Chicos at their best: the garage rock riffs come with a pleasingly punky intensity, the vocal clings onto a brattish sneer and – although only one repeated line – the chorus eventually becomes one of the most infectious earworms. The video may well include a bunch of thirty somethings dressed as schoolkids, but in some ways, the ridiculousness of the visual is the perfect accompaniment to a superbly disposable track.
