In 2010, Real Gone received a sampler of punk and ska bands from the US. As always with compilation discs, it was a mixed bag, but a few bands really stuck out. One of those was Johnny Cakes & The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypso, a band mixing ska, punk and calypso sounds. After hearing a few more tracks via their Bandcamp page, JC seemed to be a particularly accomplished band whom, crude humour aside, had the potential to stand proudly alongside Reel Big Fish and a couple of the other better known bands from ska’s third wave.
Veteran US punks Face To Face have announced a handful of westcoast US tour dates for the coming spring, as follows:
US punks Street Dogs are heading across the Atlantic this summer for a short run of European dates. In addition to a few festivals, the trip includes a date at the intimate London venue the Underworld in Camden.

Following a couple of singles and EPs, this 2013 full-length from The Best of the Worst captures the band on top form. ‘Perspectives’ includes many of the necessary ingredients for a great skacore experience: the juxtaposition of tough riffs and shiny horn parts combined with a knack for the off-kilter leads to a listening experience where the necessary attitude is present in spades. These guys appear to put so much more thought into their craft than so many of their better-known contemporaries; their music is often so busy, it leaves the listener constantly on catch-up…and with so much of a kitchen sink approach, this is an album which just keeps on giving.
