NME once described Mats Wawa as having “monster riffs”. It’s clear that NME’s idea of monster riffs and actual monster riffs are two different animals. Kyuss they most certainly aren’t and the chosen title might actually be a tongue in cheek joke, but that doesn’t escape the fact that this 2018 EP from Mats Wawa has some enjoyable moments. Actually, “enjoyable moments” is pretty much an understatement, since three quarters of ‘Scuzz’ is superb.

The Cars ‘Shake It Up’ and ‘Heartbeat City’ to be reissued in expanded deluxe editions
Following last year’s expanded reissues of The Cars’ ‘Candy-O’ and ‘Panorama’, Rhino are set to continue their Cars reissue campaign with expanded reissues of 1981’s ‘Shake It Up’ and 1984’s pop classic ‘Heartbeat City’.

With wistful acoustic guitars and harmony vocals aplenty, folk-pop troupe have been favourably compared to Fleet Foxes and Sufjan Stevens.
Their current single ‘Futures’ features a world of harmonies and its feelgood qualities bode well for their new full length album ‘ExtraLife’, released on February 23rd.
The uplifting sounds of the single have been complimented by an animated video clip, which you can watch in full below.
FERRIS AND SYLVESTER – Made In Streatham EP
Blending various singer-songwriter elements with a UK themed Americana style and more than a touch of adult pop, Ferris and Sylvester’s debut EP ‘The Yellow Line’ was very much a bright spark in 2017. After that release, it seemed to be a case of onward and upward for the duo, with an increasing social media presence and some great reviews for their follow up single – the decidedly pop-oriented ‘Better In Yellow’, released at the end of the year.
TC&I – Great Aspirations EP
When drummer Terry Chambers left XTC in the early eighties, gave up music and subsequently emigrated to Australia, few people expected him to ever return to the UK; fewer still expected him to return to the recording studio. Upon his return, he rekindled an old friendship with bassist Colin Moulding, who had since resigned from the inactive XTC in 2007 and was “not interested in making music any more”. It came as an even bigger surprise when XTC’s classic rhythm section unveiled an EP of new recordings towards the end of 2017, without so much as a word hinting that anything was genuinely afoot.
