At the end of summer ’26, The Sean Coleman Project introduced themselves with ‘You’ve Got To Choose’, a 90s infused electric blues workout that introduced some genuine talents. Not only was Sean’s guitar work a great feature of the very retro sounding track, but guesting vocalist Mia Boonstrom also proved to be a vital ingredient within the Project’s confident sound, sharing a huge performance that blended a strong melody with a great feeling of power.
Hot on the heels of that track comes ‘Might Just Be My Day’ which finds Sean and friends taking a sidestep into Americana. Adopting a solid country rock rhythm and melody, the rhythm guitars offer a jangling base, against which a crying steel beefs up the country feel, and Brad Goff’s slightly twangy vocal delivery taps into even more of a commercial country quality.
There’s some solidarity with the previous track, however, thanks to Sean’s prominent guitar solo taking centre stage at the tracks peak, and Mia returning on second vocal. Although she’s been relegated to harmony vocals here, the way her voice blends with Goff’s is very natural and between them, they bring out the best in a pleasingly catchy chorus hook.
This is so different from ‘You’ve Got To Choose’, it mightn’t even click with many people who stumbled upon that single and loved it. This may or may not be a good thing. It certainly telegraphs the fact that the Sean Coleman Project’s upcoming full length LP (‘Apropos of Nothing’, due for release in October) will be an eclectic affair…
