Watch: Marillion vocalist Steve Hogarth covers Leonard Cohen’s ‘Famous Blue Raincoat’

Steve Hogarth is a legend in melodic rock and prog circles. He’s been the Marillion frontman for over thirty five years, and has also had a critically acclaimed solo career. In January 2026, Ear Music will release ‘SPQR’, a blu ray and CD set capturing Steve’s 2024 live show from Rome.

A brilliant set takes in a few Marillion deep cuts, some well chosen covers, and even a nod to H’s breakthrough band, Europeans.

Ahead of the album release, a clip of Steve singing ‘Famous Blue Raincoat’ makes an excellent primer. Taking the Leonard Cohen classic and stripping it down to voice and piano, the performance allows for the emotive lyric to really pull at the heartstrings, whilst H’s distinctive approach to a vocal comes absolutely drenched with aching tones that bring out the fragility in a superb track.

The solo approach will certainly remind many of Steve’s ‘h natural’ live shows over the years, and definitely suggests that, for the keen Marillion fan, the upcoming blu ray and CD set will be an essential purchase.
