In June 2025, one man band Dotsun Moon released their third album, ‘Tiger’. Coming almost a decade after the previous Dotsun Moon album, you certainly couldn’t call multi-instrumentalist Richard Flierl prolific, but the record was certainly worth the wait. A clutch of pre-release singles suggested it would be a strong album, but those tracks didn’t quite capture the fullness of how great ‘Tiger’ would be. What’s more, those singles actually sounded even stronger when heard as part of the bigger picture.

A month on, ‘Tiger’ (already a stand out release of 2025), is getting a little extra promotion via the video single ‘Moments In The Sun’. A true highlight of the full length record, the song drops the listener into a world of dark indie sounds. Dotsun Moon’s beloved shoegaze guitars take a little more of a back seat, allowing more of a ‘Disintegration’ era Cure sound to take centre stage, along with light influence from The National. With a more introspective sound compared to some of the band’s tunes, a slightly crooned vocal sounds superb set against a flowing piano, whilst arcs of guitar flesh out a great melody. With an atmospheric lead guitar break introducing an even more haunting melody, there’s a lot of greatness packed into a short duration. In fact, the only negative point is its length: at just 2:44, it’s over just at the point where the listener is potentially starting to really appreciate the brilliant atmosphere.

Sometimes feeling more about mood than immediacy, this is a slightly odd choice for a single release, but it’s a track that sounds better over time. If you enjoy this, however, then circling back to check out the full album is highly recommended.
