Alternative rock artists to pay tribute to Henson’s genius

On August 23rd, Disney will release ‘The Green Album’, an album of Muppets-related songs covered by a whole host of alternative rock acts, including Weezer, OK Go and My Morning Jacket.

Obviously ‘Mahna Mahna’ pre-dates any association with Jim Henson’s loveable creations, having been recorded by Italian Piero Umilaini in 1968 (some seven years before it’s first Muppet Show appearance’ but even so, seems to have a stronger connection with The Muppets than with anything else.

The confirmed track listing is as follows:

01 OK Go: “Muppet Show Theme”
02 Weezer and Paramore’s Hayley Williams: “Rainbow Connection”
03 The Fray: “Mahna Mahna”
04 Alkaline Trio: “Moving Right Along”
05 My Morning Jacket: “Our World”
06 Amy Lee: “Halfway Down the Stairs”
